Sellers really stole the film and created something special. Edwards created a character of real substance to audiences and would provide for some greater films to follow. As a child, Princess Dala receives a gift from her father, the Shah of Lugash: the Pink Panther, the largest diamond in the world. I know there are much funnier pink panther films but this is still a classic in its own right. The climatic chase scene is superb and very funy. the film is well cast but cannot overcome Sellers who is just too funny for a supporting role. Niven is fine in the lead and gives a well rounded performance. the film basically lacks humour when he is off screen which does create a slight boredom with the film. Sellers in a supporting role is superb as Clouseau which would become he's most iconic role. Edwards would create better Pink Panther films following this but the plot is essentially a complicated heist going wrong. the film is uneven in its humour and story department but if you are not here for a pure comedy you'll enjoy the slow burning plot. The bumbling detective played by Sellars is named Clouseau. The Pink Panther is the name of the diamond. the only real let down is the film fails to create any real laughs for its main star.īlake Edwards creates a fine looking film with a fun chase scene and party scene. the Pink Panther was not the detective in the Pink Panther movies. the film has a well rounded cast and does well for the most part. What is suppose to be a heist film with some humour is saved by Sellers. The whole film is stolen by sellers who becomes Inspector Clouseau.
